How a domain transfer works

Every sale on url.community is escrow-protected. Here's exactly what happens after a buyer pays — and how to hand over the domain at your registrar with confidence.

1. Buyer pays into escrow

Funds are held securely — the seller can see the sale is funded, but nothing is released yet.

2. Seller unlocks & shares the auth code

The seller unlocks the domain at their registrar and provides the transfer authorization (EPP) code.

3. Buyer confirms the transfer

The buyer initiates the transfer into their account and confirms the domain is live and theirs.

4. Funds are released

Only once the transfer completes do we release funds to the seller. If it fails, the buyer is refunded in full.

Getting your transfer (auth) code

The transfer step needs an authorization code (also called an EPP or auth code) from your registrar. Find yours below.

GoDaddy

  1. 1My Products → Domains → select the domain
  2. 2Turn off Domain Lock, then request the Authorization Code (emailed to you)
  3. 3Share the code with the buyer through url.community

Cloudflare

  1. 1Domain → Registration → Manage domain
  2. 2Disable the registrar lock, then copy the Authorization Code
  3. 3Note: Cloudflare requires the domain to be 60+ days old to transfer out

Namecheap

  1. 1Domain List → Manage → Sharing & Transfer
  2. 2Unlock the domain and request the Auth Code (EPP)
  3. 3Approve the transfer-out email when it arrives

Squarespace / Google Domains

  1. 1Domains → your domain → Transfer settings
  2. 2Unlock the domain and get the transfer authorization code
  3. 3Share it with the buyer to complete the transfer

Bluehost

  1. 1Domains → select the domain → Transfer / EPP
  2. 2Disable the transfer lock and request the EPP/Auth code
  3. 3Provide the code to the buyer through url.community
Buyer protection:you're never out of pocket. If a transfer doesn't complete, escrow refunds you in full — no back-and-forth.
